Needs Assessment: Daughters Impacted by Gender Based Violence

In May 2021, we conducted a community conversation with 16 South Asian daughters who have been impacted by Gender Based Violence. This report was put together to highlight the experiences of these daughters and identify their needs. Laadliyan is committed to supporting girls and women who are experiencing GBV in their homes and our community. This is the beginning of much more work that we are undertaking on this topic to support our community. You can read the full report here.

Daughters of the Pandemic

South Asian girls and women have been tremendously impacted by the pandemic. In partnership with Punjabi Community Health Services, we conducted community based research to learn more about the challenges South Asian daughters within the Peel Region have been facing as a result of COVID-19. Through candid community conversations with daughters of all ages living and/or working in Peel Region, we have collected community narratives to inform our research. You can read the full report here.

We have also prepared a preliminary report to provide context on how girls and women have been struggling through the pandemic. Through our research, we hope to find out what types of supports and services girls and women in our community will need once all of this is over. You can read our preliminary report here.

In 2017 and 2018, we had the honour of working alongside St. Michael’s Hospital and community partners such as Punjabi Community Health Services and South Asian Women’s Centre on a research project which brought the issue of son preference in the Indo-Canadian community to the forefront. The project was funded by the Women’s Xchange Hospital and this infographic was developed after hosting focus groups and community consultations with grandmothers, fathers and mothers as well as community members.

We also created the info-graphic in Punjabi and Hindi.

In 2020, we will had the opportunity to present this research at various conferences and events at McMaster University and Sickkids Hospital.
