Dinoba Krupa

Project Manager, CASSA

As a political activist and community organizer, Dinoba has worked extensively in the field of gender equity at the intersection of race. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Toronto, and later obtained a Master of Public Policy and Global Affairs degree from the University of British Columbia. She currently works as Project Manager for CASSA leading a research study on gender-based violence (GBV) within the South Asian diaspora in the GTA. The prior study she led in collaboration with community partners produced an 80-page report as well as national capacity-building sessions highlighting the experiences of GBV survivors, pertinent immigration and family law, and effective methods of service delivery.

Dinoba’s passion for addressing gender and racial inequity influenced her work at UNICEF at the Regional Office of South Asia in Nepal. There she was instrumental in writing country profiles on the barriers to education faced by South Asian girls in rural communities. She also co-published a policy report on the Rome Statute’s understanding of conflict-related sexual violence which was submitted to Women’s Initiatives for Gender Justice in the Netherlands. To share her insight on gender inequity, Dinoba has been invited as speaker and panelist by various academic institutions and community organizations, served on multiple advisory committees, and is currently part of a mentorship program designed to empower young girls for the future. Outside of the office, Dinoba is a classically-trained Bharathanatyam dancer who completed her arangetram. She speaks fluent Tamil and loves all things connected to her roots.

  • The Council of Agencies Serving South Asians (CASSA) is conducting a community-based national research study on gender-based violence (GBV) in the Canadian South Asian community to understand:

    - how GBV has manifested during the pandemic; and

    - to gain insight into ways service providers may further improve their services as needed by GBV survivors and how they have already succeeded in doing so.
