WOTW: Pinky

Hi!

I’m Pinky, aka PinkRock. I’m a 42-year-old mom of 2 great kids (Rhea 15 and Rohin 12). I’m also a Certified Specialist in Fitness Nutrition, Personal Trainer and a Health and Wellness Coach. I have a major in HR and a minor in communications and spent a chunk of my career owning retail skin care and cosmetics salons.

I started my fitness journey back in 2008 when I struggled with weight loss, self-image and confidence.  See, like many of you, I always found something wrong with me when I looked into the mirror. It was either my wide butt, flabby arms or super thick thighs. Not to mention always feeling lethargic, tired and cranky.

With two young kids and a business to manage, I didn’t have time let alone the energy to cook so most of my meals came from the food court. Needless to say, my body lacked the nutrients it needed to thrive so by the time I would get home to my kids, I was always exhausted and way too tired to play.

I just dreaded everything.

Here’s the irony though…

Back then, I spent hours upon hours ensuring my clients walked out of the salon feeling beautiful and confident, whether it was through the condition of their improved skin or through makeup.  Yet, I went home feeling the complete opposite. And I let this go on for years. Until January 1, 2008, when my daughter asked me why I’m always too tired to play with her. I felt horrible.  In the same sentence, she also asked me why I was “so… so… so…so BIG”.  Yup, she said that too #sigh

So that’s when I had finally decided that I needed to do something about the way I felt and looked.  I realized that day that I had a little one watching and learning from me and I wanted to be a good role model for her. But how could I be if I was accepting myself as an unhappy person?

That’s it I thought. I’m DONE feeling like this.  I knew what needed to be done, I just had to make the time and actually get started.  The commitment wasn’t the issue for me.  I was always one to make things happen, no matter what it was that I wanted.  If I want it, I WILL put in the time and effort and I WILL get it. That’s just who I am.  It was finding the time that was an issue for me but I knew deep downtime doesn’t fall in our lap, we have to make the time for what we want.  And so I did just that.

I made the time and flipped through channels and came across an infomercial for at home workouts, little did I know that one day, I would become a Diamond coach and represent them. I figured it was worth a try and that there were worse ways to spend $150.  So I did it. I took the leap and tried it.

I will be honest, it was not easy and at times, I wanted to give up. I couldn’t get the food part right or I was too tired after work but I stuck with it as I reminded myself why I placed that order in the first place. Soon enough, I started to see results and that’s when my mindset started to change.

I saw my body change. I felt different.  I felt cleaner.  I felt lighter. I felt more energy.  I felt… Good.  And that made me feel HAPPY.

At that time, I didn’t have a coach, at times wish I did. Maybe my progress would have been faster but then, maybe I wouldn’t have learned all the things I did along the way through trial and error.  Now, I can help guide people on what food choices to make and when,  how to pick healthier options when they’re on the road, how to fuel their bodies with the right nutrients at the right times of the day based on their own stats, how to start an active lifestyle and feel more fit and most importantly, have energy and feel great about themselves.

Now I can help people love themselves like they once did before.

… And this is why I became a Health & Wellness Coach.

Are you ready to love yourself again?
